Kara Winslow
Dance Instructor
Kara Winslow was five years old when she fell in love with dance. Wanting to take ballet more seriously she enrolled at Saratoga City Ballet where she trained rigorously in ballet and performed parts in many classical works. Along with her ballet training, Kara sought opportunities to expand her repertoire into modern and contemporary dance styles. She participated in numerous workshops given by professional guest choreographers both at Saratoga City Ballet and the National Museum of Dance, notably Mark Morris and Garth Fagan.
With aspirations of owning her own dance company, Kara attended college at SUNY Potsdam where she studied dance and business. Here she trained in modern dance and learned to choreograph alongside musicians while maintaining her ballet training.
Kara earned her business degree and began teaching and choreographing in Glens Falls, NY where she was raised. After teaching at many local studios, she became the ballet teacher at Adirondack Repertory Dance Theater where she taught all levels of classical ballet to children and teens and choreographed performances.
In 2017 Adirondack Repertory Dance Theater announced its closure and Kara went on to open her own dance company, Adirondack Dane Artistry. Her company held many performances and summer camps at the Strand Theatre of Hudson Falls as well as special creative performances inside the gallery at the Hyde Museum of Glens Falls.
Choreographing musical theater dance was also a passion for Kara. In 2017, she was invited to choreograph the Lion King for the SMSA players. She found so much enjoyment in it that she continues choreographing productions for SMSA such as the Sound of Music for the SMSA players and Once On This Island for the SMSA drama club and many more.
With over 15 years experience as a dance instructor and choreographer, Kara is excited to be joining the SMSA Arts Academy to share her passion for dance and its creative outlets.
